So what makes for shitty radio?

Just curious what you guys hate in radio shows?

I personally can't stand when it's obvious producers are filtering out intelligent people in order to flush their hosts with idiots in order to encourage yelling.

Zany, corny goofball antics of Morning Zoo personalities who think they are "outrageous" or "edgy". I get that you want ratings, but too many people are cookie-cutter Howard Sterns.

If they came across as more themselves and not themselves amped up 10 times, it may be better, but then again..ratings.

On that note people who think that if you just talk about sex you'll be a success.

What Atomic said. It is possible to goof around without trying too hard. I also think it works the other way. Deliberately preventing yourself from saying/doing something as it may affect ratings.

I also hate it when the really dumb people are NOT filtered out. Especially on sports talk radio.

Back when I did radio, I kinda dreaded having to take callers of any sort. We had a few decent callers, but most callers are borderline-retarded. But doing a talk show on college radio (already a rare thing) kind of lent itself to needing other voices besides the hosts for folks to want to tune in.

When I do listen to BASS (which works better for me on non-Falcons game nights), I'll likely be somewhat involved in the chat app but won't call in. Maybe I'll chime in on those nights where we talk shit about folks on the board.
